Texas law states that students must be in attendance at least 90% of the time to receive grade level credit. The 90% rule pertains to all absences - regardless if the absences are excused or unexcused. In addition, district policy dictates we are only able to accept 5 parent notes per semester to code absences as excused. Parent excuse notes may cover 2 consecutive days of an absence. If a parent note is received for an absence lasting more than 2 days, then only the first two days will be coded as excused. Parent notes must be presented to the school within five days of the student returning to school.

A doctor’s note is required to excuse three or more consecutive absences. If your child attends part of a school day and is seen by a doctor on that given day, he/she will be counted as present with a doctor’s note.

In the event a student has absences which put him/her in jeopardy of not meeting the minimum attendance requirements, the student will be required to complete tutorials and show improvement in core subject grades.

If your child exceeds the states allowable absences, an attendance committee will meet to determine grade level credit. Participation in the after school program will be one factor that is taken into consideration by the committee.

Daily attendance is critical to student learning and success. Your child’s education is our top priority and we want to work together to ensure their academic success. Thank you for your support.
